Foxes get their First Bite at the Champions League.

Tonight, Leicester City travel to the Jan Breydel Stadium to face Belgian side Club Brugge.

Last season Leicester City achieved what most people thought was unachievable and won the Premier League title.

They now have the chance to make their mark on Europe’s biggest footballing stage. We would all love to see the Foxes take the Champions League by storm. However, after an indifferent start to the domestic season, I wonder what is most important for the Leicester squad?

Leicester now have an expectation in the Premier League and they will struggle to meet that expectation, although in the Champions League no one expects anything from the Foxes so they can play with the freedom that won them the title.

I personally fancy Leicester to compete with Europe’s elite, they have been given probably the best group they could have hoped for with Porto, Club Brugge and FC Copenhagen.

I believe the Foxes should make it through the group stage. They are champions of the best league in the world and, regardless of how and what happened last season, the best British teams are expected to make inroads in the Champion league. These teams wouldn’t have to deal with the strength and no-nonsense defending of Wes Morgan or a striker with the movement of Jame Vardy.

How many Europeans teams play against a traditional 4-4-2 these days?

Leicester’s home form will dictate how far they go. Leicester were strong at the King Power last season, only losing once at home last season against Arsenal and they will need to carry that level of performance into the group games to ensure progression to the next round.

For most of the Leicester squad, European football would have seemed more of a pipe dream than a reality. This will drive the players to grasp what may be a once in a lifetime chance with both hands. It’s the belief and drive that we see emanating from the Leicester players which will make everyone want to see them win.

We all love an underdog story, but Leicester City deserve more than the ‘underdog label’. They dominated the Premier League last season and deserve our support as they try and achieve the achievable this season.
